Tara Fulton

Bereaved Mom and Volunteer

My name is Tara Fulton and I am so grateful to be a Still Remembered Project Volunteer for about 5 years. In 2011 after being married for 3 years, my husband Alex and I got pregnant for the first time and were thrilled to start a family of our own. However 12 weeks into my pregnancy, I suffered a miscarriage. It was such a difficult time for us and to make the situation more difficult, I had further health complications that continued for months. After meeting with several doctors, seeing specialists, having scans, and undergoing two surgeries, it was discovered that I had a heterotopic pregnancy.  This is where there was an ectopic and intrauterine pregnancy at the same time. The realization that we had actually lost twins was devastating and felt very lonely at times as we didn’t know anyone else who had gone through this experience. After a year of countless prayers and continued healing, we got pregnant will our son, Ronin.  Through God’s grace and provision, we went on to have three boys - Ronin 12, Levi 11, and Asher 8.

I had heard about Still Remembered through some friends on Facebook and decided to reach out and see if I would be able to help out in any way. I was so grateful to God for giving my husband and I the family we always prayed for but a part of me still longed to do something to honor the memory of our twins.  I loved Still Remembered’s mission and felt like it was the perfect opportunity to support other women who were walking through this difficult journey of pregnancy loss while also giving back in a way that I would have loved to have at that time in my life. I partnered with Amanda Parker and began making bracelets for our Miscarriage Packages that are distributed to dozens of hospitals and doctors’ offices within a two hour radius from Pittsburgh. Our packages contain a notebook, support cards, a pen, bracelets for mom and dad, and a handkerchief.  We hold assembly nights once a month where members of the community can volunteer and assist with the compilation of these packages.  Through these evenings together, we are able to connect with other women, hear their stories, and give them a space to feel seen because of this common thread of loss and love that we all share for our sweet babies.  The thousands of packages that we have assembled over the years have provided comfort, encouragement, and a reminder that no one is walking this path alone.  Our prayer is that these packages bring a portion of healing and hope during moments of deep grief.  We are always so thankful to hear the countless stories of how Still Remembered has supported families in times when they needed it most. Psalm 34:18 says “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” I feel so blessed to be a part of the Still Remembered community as we work together to always remember the lives of our precious babies.
